I would suggest that Wimsey is referring to her obvious intelligence,
honesty, and strength of character rather than to conventional beauty.
And I think that Harriet Walter was definitely good looking enough and also
conveyed the qualities of character required to be a convincing Harriet
Vane. Maybe I just have a higher opinion of her looks than you do. <G>

Everyone, read this! It is important and well-written.
I love the line about the "Protestant Wind" defeating the
Spanish Armada so that there wouldn't be too many Spanish in
North America; just like the "Divine Wind" that brought
defeat to the Chinese in their war with Japan centuries ago.

But of course. If it was not for the dedication of Cantor, Boehner
and others, the health bill would have been a disaster. Just like
social security, medicare for those over 65 and all those other
Republican master plans...

I like my Phryne in small doses, but she's definitely entertaining. I really
enjoy Kerry Greenwood's Corinna Chapman series "Earthly Delights". I'm sure
you'd love them, Piliki, but I'm not sure of their availability in the USA.
