Hello:
I ran your suggested hijacker program and now the simulated trojan is gone,
but I cannot remove any programs from my system. Add/Remove Programs ->
c:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.e xe Application not found. Any suggestions?

as your MODEM has nothing plugged into it, your not going to connect using it.
You can only connect with your NIC card, since that is the only thing
plugged into the phone line, have you talked with your ISP to get your
configuration to connect to the internet?
Sometimes you have to manually configure things before it will actually make

I have a PC with XP Home SP3 (SP3 installed yesterday) it has been working
well but
today, when I double click, or right click/open on a shortcut or select an
item in the
start menu nothing happens except that the mouse arrow turns to a working
hourglass and
the program does not open.
Any ideas on what could be happening or what I should look at.

First - taking the problem with your inability to install the XP OS using
*your* PC...
The HDD was installed as a USB-connected device and ordinarily the XP OS
