How do I use gencat?
|
| |
The manual page for gencat [1] does not provide any information about what should be there for the utility to run. Whatever I pass through it, I get "catfile in wrong format". [1] <URL:ms-its:C:\SFU\help\comman ds.chm::/gencat.htm>

How to make the (file) command recognize ISO images
|
| |
The file utility provided with SFU 3.5 does not understand ISO images, erroneously classifying them as ASCII text (even though they evidently have control characters at the very beginning). There is no update available. [1] The help text [2] informs me that updates are available at [3]; however, that host is not available any more.... mer »

NFS client: Can't modify files but can create and delete
|
| |
I have a NFS share on a CentOS 5 box and am accessing it via Windows 2008. I can create new files and folders, and delete existing files and folders. I'm doing an all_squash and forcing all access to be the root user. When I create new files from Windows, they do show as owner root and permissions are... mer »

symlinks not supported on W2k8 NFS?
|
| |
We have an installation of Windows 2008, including Server for NFS. On that system, using a Linux client, we get EOPNOTSUPP when trying to create a new symlink (through symlink(2)). When reading symlinks that pre-existed on the disk (from an SFU 3.5 installation), readlink will give EIO. On a seemingly-identical installation, all works fine.... mer »

Hi We are running Microsoft Services for Unix on Windows Server 2003. This file server serves both Windows XP clients and Linux (Centos 5) clients. Pause using NFS when I open a folder
|
| |
I've been using servicesforlinux nfs client for a while now, and it has one HUGE annoyance. Nearly every time I go to open a file with any program that uses a windows "open dialog" of some sort (File:Open in most applications) I get a pause of about 10 seconds before the directory will fill in the dialog. There's some timeout involved... mer »

mounting without a drive letter
|
| |
Hello, I have a need for more mounts than there exists drive letters. The network provider for nfs will not accept WNetAddConnectionX() without a drive letter. The mount utility is calling this API as well and simply will not work without a drive letter being specified. An interesting thing is that after a mount-umount sequence (where the drive... mer »
