Hello,

When IMAP host is unreachable mutt is infinitly trying to connect.
I need to kill the process.
It's quite easy to reproduce this effect when pointing to a non existant host.
mutt -f imap:/...@nowhere.onthemoon (same with pop).
Trying this with lenny version 1.5.18 (lenny) I have not this trouble.

Hi Philip,
the bug is not reproducible if the hostname doesn't exist.

I tried with an hostname which is not listening on the imap port and it
takes some time to timeout but that depends on connect_timeout value:

(from man muttrc)

      Type: number
      Default: 30

Causes Mutt to timeout a network connection (for IMAP, POP or SMTP)
after this many seconds if the connection is  not  able  to  be estab‐
lished.  A negative value causes Mutt to wait indefinitely for the
connection attempt to succeed.

the command

mutt -e 'set connect_timeout=2' -f imap:/...@google.com/

will time out after 2 seconds.

Therefore, since it doesn't sound like a bug, I would like to close this
bug, what do you think?

I agree, it works this way but without this option the default timout (30 sec) isn't working and I had already tried this option  in a .muttrc configuration file launched with mutt -F .muttrc and it didn't worked.
For me sid version isn't working as it should in this case.

What is not working exactly?
If I hit ctrl+C the program will exit

If I do
ssh www.google.com

ssh hangs, and hitting ctrl+C will let ssh exit

I don't think that this is an SSH bug, it is the standard behavior of a
TCP connection when no ICMP is sent back and the packets are just
dropped on the other side.
